My name is Ellie Hermann and I am the 2021 Queen of the Chesapeake from the Maryland Yacht Club. I attend Northeast High School as a senior Honor Roll student, where I am involved in Student Government Association (SGA), Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD), National Honor Society (NHS), Yearbook Club, and interact (a division of the Rotary Club). I am on the Northeast Cheer Team, and I run track in the Spring. I am the Historian for the International Thespian Society, and I am involved in my school's drama department where I have designed numerous costumes for both the Wizard of Oz, The Little Mermaid, and the Twelve Incompetent Jurors.
I organized a Prom Dress Drive where we collected 400 prom dresses and distributed them to students throughout Anne Arundel County in 2020. And I teamed up with the Pasadena Business Association for a repeated Prom Dress Drive for 2021. This year I received the Presidential Gold Volunteer Service Award in recognition of my 2021 Prom Dress Drive. In addition, I have been a Girl Scout for 12 years, and have received my Bronze, Silver, and Gold Awards. My Gold Award is in the field of Mental Health. I also sit on numerous Mental Health Advisory Boards within Anne Arundel County and the National Board of One Choice.
But one of my proudest achievements in High School so far has been my work with the House of Addictions (2018) and the Human Experience (2019), and the Sound of Silence (2021) where I played an integral role in planning and executing the events from start to finish. We highlighted the realities of addictions and mental health and presented recovery and coping strategies. Over 1,000 people attended our event at the Marley Station Mall in the Fall of 2019.
My charity is the Queen of the Chesapeake scholarship fund. Queen of the Chesapeake serves to help empower young women, helping them to build self confidence, through positive experiences within and around the Yachting Community on the Chesapeake Bay and surrounding tributaries. In addition to learning and experiencing Chesapeake Bay Yacht club customs and traditions. The Queen of the Chesapeake helps expand young women's personal growth and inspire self confidence through speech writing, public speaking, time management, relationship building, community service, conflict resolution and fundraising.
My hobbies include boating, traveling, scuba diving, paddle boarding, swimming, and spending time with friends and family. In the future, I am hoping to attend UCLA’s School of Theater, and major in Costume Design.
