Hello Officers and Members of the wonderful Chesapeake Bay yachting community.
My name is Ellie Hermann and I am honored to serve as the 74th Queen of the Chesapeake. In a few short weeks I will be a 2022 Northeast High School Graduate. During my time at Northeast High School, I was involved in Student Government Association (SGA), and am currently serving as the Senior Class Vice President. I am President of Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD), a member of the National Honor Society (NHS), Yearbook Editor, and President of Interact (a division of the Rotary Club). I also serve on the Anne Arundel County Superintendent’s Teen Advisory board. In addition, I am the Historian for the International Thespian Society, and am involved in my school’s drama department where I have designed numerous costumes for the Wizard of Oz, The Little Mermaid, The Twelve Incompetent Jurors, Once Upon An Island, and Frozen. I participated in both Cheer and Track from freshman to senior year and have been on Honor Roll for all 4 years of my high school career. As you can tell, I firmly believe that sleep is highly overrated.
Over the past 3 years, I have collected over 1,000 dresses to be distributed to students throughout Anne Arundel County under my Pasadena Princess Project. In 2021, I received the Presidential Gold Volunteer Service Award in recognition of my Prom Dress Drive. In addition, I have been a Girl Scout for 12 years, and have received my Bronze, Silver, and Gold Awards. My Gold Award was in the field of Mental Health. I sit on numerous Mental Health Advisory Boards within Anne Arundel County and the National Board of One Choice. I have organized several community outreach events including the House of Addictions (2018), the Human Experience (2019), and the Sound of Silence (2021/2022) where I played an integral role in planning and executing events from start to finish. We highlighted the realities of addictions and mental health and presented recovery and coping strategies. These events have reached several thousand people in Anne Arundel County. I’m fortunate to have been in a position to help so many people who face such challenges.
My charity is the Queen of the Chesapeake scholarship fund. This year is the 75th Anniversary of the Queen of the Chesapeake Pageant. The pageant has a rich history and tradition, and over the last 75 years, has touched the lives of thousands of young women. The Queen of the Chesapeake Pageant serves to empower young women, helping them to build self-confidence, through positive experiences within and around the yachting community on the Chesapeake Bay and surrounding tributaries. Through their involvement with Chesapeake Bay yacht club customs and traditions, participants gain valuable life experiences. The Queen of the Chesapeake Program helps expand young women’s personal growth and inspires self-confidence. Over the past 75 years, Queens have used this experience as a platform to enrich their communities and help support numerous charities. I have been privileged to work to continue the fine tradition of the Queen of the Chesapeake Pageant and Program and hope my efforts make a difference for many young women in the years to come. My hobbies include boating, traveling, scuba diving, paddle boarding, swimming, and spending time with friends and family. I am planning to attend USC or UMKC as a Theater Major this fall to pursue my passion in Theatrical Costume Design. I appreciate the gracious generosity of our yacht club community during my time as Queen. I’m especially grateful for the support of Maryland Yacht Club both during my time as their princess, and as Queen. Thank you to everyone who has supported me during this amazing experience.
Sincerely,
Ellie Hermann
